Children’s Fall 2008 Academy Classes
Adult’s Fall 2008 Academy Classes
Operating year-round over four different semesters, the Fulton Academy of Theatre provides area children with professional instruction in the theatre arts.
Academy classes focus on four core areas – basic acting, movement, voice, and areas of specialization (anything from make-up to directing to scenic design). A certificate program was instituted in 2007 based on instruction in all areas of the core curriculum. The summer is dedicated to intensive daily courses with performance components at the Fulton Opera House and two satellite sites.
Three years ago, the Fulton was selected as a pilot site by Music Theatre International to help develop its “Broadway Jr.” productions during our summer sessions. More than 500 students ranging from pre-schoolers to high school seniors, take Academy classes each year, with scholarship aid available to those facing financial needs.
The Fulton was also the first theatre in the nation invited to become a satellite site for Neighborhood Bridges, the critical literacy program devised by the Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. The Fulton’s involvement remains singular, as it has been the first and only company to adapt the curriculum for pre-schoolers, as well as such underserved constituencies as migrant children and those home-schooled.
