When I started planning for the 2008-2009 Fulton Theatre Season, I had a wonderful, awful realization: I was entering my 10th season as the Fulton’s Artistic Director. Wonderful because there is no institution or community I could imagine that would be more of a joy to serve. Awful because time should not be allowed to go so fast.

When my first season opened in the fall of 1999 with A Man for All Seasons, I was thrilled… excited… exhilarated… and more than a little bit nervous. And when the curtain rises on the 2008-2009 Season, I already know that I’ll be thrilled… excited… well, you get the idea. Some things never change. Thank goodness!

In the past nine years, I’ve had the pleasure of producing 65 mainstage productions—nine of which were world premieres. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with over a thousand remarkably talented theatre professionals. And the result has been literally millions of memorable moments.

Each year we attempt to raise the bar a little higher, to break some new ground, to be an innovator that extends the rich history created on the Fulton stage. This year we open the season with the seminal work that set the standard
for the modern musical and we close with the most ambitious production in Fulton history! In between, are more laughs, thrills, chills and heart-swelling moments than ever before.

I hope you will join us for this journey to “worlds you long to see.”

All my best,

Michael D. Mitchell
Artistic Director
